The liquor market in Andhra Pradesh has undergone a sea change as 11 companies have agreed to reduce the rates. The move came in the wake of allegations that under the YSRCP regime, the basic rates of liquor were hiked so that the government officials could collect their share of commission from the suppliers.
The new liquor policy which the coalition government introduced has all purchases aligned to consumer demands and transparency. This move has set companies to self-regulate their base prices downward, following the trend of fairness.
It has caused the procurement price of the liquor by State Beverages Corporation to fall. Its rate cut per quarter works up to ₹30 more than the MRP. Thus, consumers, who had borne all the pinch, now will get a bit of respite as well.
