As of Wednesday, a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has developed into a severe low-pressure system. According to meteorological predictions, it will move northwest toward the northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh coasts within the next 24 hours, tracking along the coastline. Heavy rainfall is expected to be brought by this development in Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Tamil Nadu through Friday, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in other regions.
According to forecasts by the Visakhapatnam Meteorological Center, there will be strong winds with gusts up to 55 km/h along the coast as the system intensifies. The rough conditions have been an advisory for fishermen to avoid going out into the sea until Sunday.
On Wednesday, moderate and light rains were reported in several districts, Tirupati, Bapatla, Eluru, Anakapalle, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam. Many districts witnessed rough sea conditions.
Meteorologist Acharya Bhanukumar says climate change is bringing about change in weather patterns. Says low-pressure systems, which traditionally were crossing the Andhra Pradesh coastline in November and December are now veering toward Tamil Nadu, while systems expected near Tamil Nadu are shifting toward Andhra Pradesh. A European weather model also predicts another low-pressure system may form near the Andaman Islands by the end of the month.
