Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent comments referring to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as the "father" of the Indian Constitution did raise quite a storm amid criticism and debate. Actor Kamal Haasan, known as the leader of Makkal Needhi Maiam or MNM, shared his take on the issue at the end of a public forum recently. He stressed upon Ambedkar's vision forming the modern India.
"If Gandhiji liberated India from foreign rule, Ambedkar worked to eliminate social injustices. Every Indian upholds Ambedkar's vision and will continue to defend it. No one will accept the diminishing of a leader of such monumental significance. As we commemorate 75 years of our Constitution, Parliament should host a meaningful discussion about its relevance. Additionally, we must reflect on Ambedkar's contributions to our nation," Haasan stated.
