A controversy has brewed in Tirupati over a Santa Claus hat placed on the Annamaiah statue at Rayalacheruvu Road junction. The act was done by unknown people who have outraged the Hindu groups, Swamijis, and the Bajrang Dal activists. They demanded prompt action from the authorities.
Annamaiah Kalakshetram Peethadhipathi Vijaya Shankaraswamy sat before the statue to protest. He said he would fast till the offenders are brought to book. The incident has been condemned as an insult to Annamaiah, who is known for his extreme devotion to Lord Venkateswara.
Tirupati East Police have begun their investigation with CCTV footage of the place. The evidence showed that this fellow who was supposed to behave like a beggar has allegedly kept the hat on the head of the statue. He was identified as one of the main accused. His name was one selling pens at the crossing. The authorities promised that something would be done regarding him, but it's also important to call for calm and understanding in the process so that the entire incident is not misjudged.
The police are investigating if the man did so on his own discretion or was compelled by somebody to do that.
In this regard, there is a need to heighten vigilance around the worshiped statues and icons since events of this kind are less likely to happen again in the future.
