The Indian women's cricket team lost their last match against South Africa during their South African tour. The team aimed to win the last game and close the series on a positive note but this did not happen.
South Africa Set Moderate Target
- South Africa achieved 155 runs with 6 wickets remaining in their fifth T20 match which took place on Monday. Renuka Singh (2/21) and Sricharani (2/22) bowled effectively and limited the scoring.
- Captain Laura Wolvaardt led the innings with an unbeaten 92 runs. She hit 11 fours and 2 sixes. However, she received little support from other batters. Sune Luus added 23 runs while the rest of the lineup contributed small scores.
India Struggle in Chase
- India needed 156 runs to win yet their batting performance resulted in only 132 runs which led to their defeat against South Africa. The team had a Powerplay score of 28 runs but lost their second wicket and failed to create successful batting partnerships.
- Wickets fell at regular intervals. The team lost 4 wickets and reached a total of 77 runs by the 13th over which put them in a difficult situation.
Batting Efforts Fall Short
- Bharati Fulmali scored 40 runs from 30 balls including 4 fours and 2 sixes. She was the top scorer for India. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur made 22 runs but struggled to maintain a high scoring rate.
- Richa Ghosh remained not out on 25 runs from 15 balls. She attempted to increase the score but her efforts did not lead to a match victory.
South Africa Secure Series Win
- South African bowlers executed their bowling strategy with control and discipline. Mlaba took 2 wickets for 15 runs and de Klerk took 2 wickets for 26 runs.
- South Africa won the match by 23 runs which allowed them to win the T20 series with a 4-1 result.
