Today marks the 150th birth anniversary of India's first Deputy Prime Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. President Droupadi Murmu paid her respects to the national leader on the occasion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered floral tributes at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat.
During the function, a helicopter showered flowers over the statue of Sardar Patel. A special parade was conducted and garnered much attention in view of Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day. Different military contingents were part of the parade.
Prime Minister Modi received and returned the salute from the armed forces. Further, he pledged unity with the soldiers and the people gathered in attendance. Various forces passing in a military march and cultural performances by artists were other additions to the event.
Stalls from several states, including Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Manipur, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Puducherry, added variety to the celebration. These stalls showcase culture and unity across regions.
