20 TMC Of Godavari Water Planned For Musi River CM Revanth Reddy
  • The government is concentrating its efforts on developing the Musi River in a responsible way. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced that the state plans to develop the Musi River through responsible and organized development methods. He said the project aims to fulfill both environmental requirements and urban development requirements which will be needed in the future.
  • The Chief Minister spoke at the "Musi Invites" event. The Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) organized this program. He said the government studied the project carefully for the past two years. Experts and officials examined each aspect before moving forward.
  • He studied river development projects which different countries developed. He said the government needs to take action during this moment. Future generations will encounter major environmental problems and urban development difficulties if the government fails to act.

Historical Role of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar

  • Revanth Reddy highlighted the historical development of the Hyderabad region. He said both the Nizams and the British established industrial development in Secunderabad.
  • About one hundred years ago they built Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs. The reservoirs controlled floodwaters which occurred in both the Musi and Esi rivers. The reservoirs operated as the citys drinking water supply system for many years.
  • Modern planning needs to incorporate both worldwide trends and existing environmental conditions. The government will accept public input together with professional recommendations to determine which areas need enhancement.

Plan to Bring 20 TMC of Godavari Water

The Chief Minister explained the plan to supply water from the Godavari River to the Musi.

The proposal includes these main points:

  • The Musi River will receive 20 TMC of Godavari water through diversion.
  • The Musi riverbed will maintain a steady flow of 2.5 TMC water.
  • The remaining 17.5 TMC of water will supply drinking water to the city of Hyderabad.

The government will proceed with developing Bapu Ghat into an official visitor attraction. 

Bapu Ghat development will be executed by the government at its location next to Langer Houz. The Musi and Esi rivers converge at this particular location.

The officials intend to develop this site into a primary tourist destination. The project will create tourist opportunities while enhancing the riverfront space.

Old City Development Projects

Revanth Reddy declared that multiple development projects currently proceed in Hyderabad's Old City.

The projects encompass the following elements:

  • The expansion of the metro rail system
  • The expansion of existing roadways
  • The enhancement of existing facilities

The government is allocating multiple billions of rupees for these projects.

Lake Restoration and Flood Concerns

  • The Chief Minister announced that all lakes in Hyderabad will undergo restoration work. His observation revealed positive public response toward these initiatives.
  • He discussed the flooding problems that affect the Musi River. The presence of unauthorized structures on natural drainage paths has created increased danger for flood events. Affected areas experience their homes destroyed during times of extreme flooding.
  • The government will deliver container housing solutions to assist residents who face dangerous conditions in their current locations.

The Need to Protect the Musi for Future Generations

  • Revanth Reddy observed that people today know less about the Musi River than they did in previous times. He asked whether political disputes should halt all progress on development projects.
  • The Musi project aims to benefit all people according to his statements. The primary objective consists of returning the environment to its original state while ensuring urban safety.
  • He warned that Tosori River restoration failure will have negative effects on Nalgonda area. Future generations will face severe threats because of river system neglect.
  • The Chief Minister concluded by asking for public cooperation to complete the project successfully.
