Amaravati received its official governmental designation as a city
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu considered the Amaravati statutory status bill which Parliament passed as a victory for the people. He described Amaravati as a “People’s Capital” and said the law strengthens its position.
He noted that most political parties supported the bill, with the exception of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). He shared these views during a press meeting held at his residence in Undavalli.

He also thanked all political parties that supported the legislation.
Criticism of YSRCP
- Chandrababu criticized the YSRCP leadership. He said that the party which gained public backing built their platforms used to benefit state interests. He said their actions showed a lack of responsibility toward Andhra Pradesh.
- He explained that his government established legal protections through new legislation after people attempted to reduce Amaravati's strength.
Impact of State Bifurcation
- Chandrababu said the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh caused distress among people in both regions. He recalled his earlier tenure as Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, where he led projects such as Cyberabad and Hi-Tech City.
- The state division occurred because there existed no established plan for developing a capital city. This created administrative challenges for the new Andhra Pradesh government.
Capital Formation and Governance Challenges
- After bifurcation, the state faced difficulty in setting up administrative systems. Chandrababu explained that basic infrastructure was limited in the early phase.

- Public opinion research showed that most people wanted the capital to be located in the Vijayawada Guntur area according to him. Due to its central position Amaravati became the chosen site for the capital.
- He also shared information about the administrative decisions made during his time in office. The merger of seven mandals from Telangana into Andhra Pradesh received facilitation through his efforts. The government dedicated resources to support areas impacted by the Polavaram project. The government official released his official statement about the situation in Telangana.
- Chandrababu stated that he has not opposed Telangana. He explained that Hyderabad development projects intend to provide advantages for people who speak Telugu.
- He made it clear that he would refrain from performing any activities which would damage the dignity and interests of people from Telangana.
