Amaravati Capital Status Special Assembly Session And Legislative Process

Special Assembly Session on March 28

  • The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly will hold a special session on March 28. The session will focus on granting statutory status to Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh.
  • The state government plans to pass a formal resolution during this session. The resolution will request Central Government approval to establish Amaravati as the official capital through legal amendments. The State Cabinet must first approve the proposal before it can proceed.
  • The Assembly will send the resolution to the Ministry of Home Affairs India after its passage.

Amendment to the State Reorganization Act

  • The Central Government is preparing to amend the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. This amendment will establish legal authority for Amaravati to function as the capital city.
  • The Centre required the State Government to provide all official documents that supported the capital decision. The documents that were submitted did not conform to the necessary requirements. The Prime Minister's Office India recommended to the state that it should create a new resolution for Assembly approval after examining the situation.
  • The state government followed the recommendation and scheduled a special session for immediate execution.

Role of Key Leaders

  • Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu requested support from the Central Government. He talked about the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
  • The Central Government started to develop a legislative proposal for Parliament that would be introduced during the ongoing budget session after the discussions.

Aim to Ensure Permanent Capital Status

The State Government aims to establish Amaravati as the permanent capital city. The legal amendment will be created to stop any future modifications.

The main goals of our project include these three objectives:

The government needs to establish strong legal measures which will protect Amaravati from all legal threats. The government needs to prevent any future conflicts which might arise about where the capital should be situated. The government must maintain active development efforts which have already been started. The government needs to have uninterrupted control over its administrative functions.

  • The capital will become extremely difficult to move after the amendment receives approval as law.
  • Capital status of the city needs to be established through this process.
  • Hyderabad functioned as the shared capital between two states for a specific time period according to the Reorganisation Act. The arrangement finished through which Hyderabad functioned as the joint capital on June 2 2024.
  • Amaravati became the official capital when the State Government asked the Centre to make the announcement after the deadline.

In 2016 administrative work began in Amaravati yet the city lacked proper legal recognition as the capital.

Central Government Assistance Supports Development Efforts

  • The development process for Amaravati capital functions at a reduced speed throughout recent years. The new government started its operations in June 2024 which resulted in increased work activity.
  • The Central Government is providing support for the ongoing development work. The two governments are collaborating to finish their infrastructure projects and administrative tasks.

The Name of Amaravati Has Historical Background

  • Amaravati received its official designation from the State Cabinet on April 1 2015. The decision aimed to reflect cultural and historical significance.
  • On April 23 2015 the Municipal Administration Department published an official announcement. Amaravati received confirmation through this announcement that it would serve as the capital city of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Assembly session special requirements caused the schedule to change.
  • Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu cancelled his Vadarevu visit because of the special Assembly session. The session took place on the same day that he planned to visit.
