Construction Progress and Expected Opening
- The Alluri Sitarama Raju Bhogapuram International Airport is almost finished according to State Minister for Roads and Buildings BC Janardhan Reddy. The airport will begin operations between July and August of this year according to his statement.
- He shared this update during a visit to Vizianagaram and Parvathipuram districts. He checked the airport construction progress while meeting with GMR Group officials. He later spoke at a press conference.
The minister reported that 97% of construction work has been finished. He listed possible inauguration dates:
- July 5
- July 8
- August 17
- August 19
He provided progress information about essential elements:
- Earth runway work: 100% complete
- Air Traffic Control (ATC): 95% complete
- Connecting roads: near completion
Infrastructure Development in the Region
The minister explained that the airport will create economic growth opportunities for North Andhra. He mentioned that the government currently develops additional infrastructure initiatives.
- The state currently builds six new airports which will enhance air travel access throughout the region
- The construction of seven major roadways from Visakhapatnam is currently underway
- An elevated road project at Anandapuram junction is currently undergoing Detailed Project Report (DPR) development
Remarks on Previous Government
- Janardhan Reddy criticized former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy over past statements about the airport project.
- He said that earlier, some leaders questioned the need for an airport in a region with limited public transport. He referred to remarks about the absence of “Red Bus” services. He stated that those who raised such concerns now speak as if they supported the project from the beginning.
