Bihar Assembly Elections Seat Disputes Within The India Alliance On Eight Constituencies

As the Bihar Assembly polls approach, political temperatures in the state have risen. The 'Maha Gathbandhan' or India alliance has not agreed on seat sharing at a full level. Congress, RJD, and Left parties have declared candidates in eight seats, resulting in intrasquad competition within the alliance.

Parties and Seat Division

  • Congress will contest 61 seats.
  • Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has released 143 candidates.
  • The Communist Party of India (CPI) is running in nine seats, while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) is running in four seats.

Running candidates in overlapping seats has reinforced the impression that internal differences still exist in the alliance. Onlookers are now anxiously awaiting to see whether these parties will fight against one another or agree before the elections.

Remarks by Party Representatives

RJD state spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari said that the party needs to be understood by its allies. He pointed out that as RJD is the largest party in Bihar, it should be entitled to contest more seats. He also requested other parties in the alliance to drop their candidates from seats already declared by RJD.

In the meantime, Bihar Congress spokesperson Asit Tiwari said that his party honors coalition principles. Tiwari asserted that Congress had announced its nominees first and later RJD and the Left parties. Tiwari hoped that required adjustments would be made in due course.

Election Schedule

The elections of the Bihar Assembly will be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11. November 14 is the day fixed for counting the votes, and on that day, the results will be declared.
