Political activities have heated up in Bihar as the state is getting ready for assembly polls. Under these circumstances, opposition party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has ousted 27 of its leaders, two of whom are sitting MLAs, for behavior detrimental to the interests of the party.
RJD state president Mangani Lal Mandal made the announcement in an official release. He added that the expelled members have also been stripped of the party's primary membership. The party added that those leaders were involved in anti-Mahagathbandhan candidate activities. Two MLAs—Chote Lal Rai and Mohammed Kamran—four former MLAs, and one MLC are among those expelled.
Earlier, six of its leaders were also suspended by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for anti-party work. The BJP took this move after it discovered a few members conspiring against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates.
The BJP has also dropped sitting MLA Pawan Yadav from the party. He chose to fight the assembly elections as an independent candidate after he was not given a party ticket.
The elections of the Bihar assembly will be conducted in two phases—on November 6 and November 11. The votes will be counted on November 14.
