Free Electricity Scheme For Handloom Weavers Begins

The state government has implemented a free electricity program which benefits handloom and power loom workers. The program which starts on Wednesday will help weaving families decrease their electricity costs.

Under this plan:

• Handloom units will receive up to 200 free units per month
• Power loom units will receive up to 500 free units per month

The government introduced this scheme based on promises made in its election manifesto. The main purpose of the project exists to support the handloom sector while reducing the financial strain that employees encounter.

The program will provide benefits to approximately 1 lakh families who live throughout the entire state.

• 93,000 handloom families
• 11,488 power loom families

The government plans to allocate approximately Rs 150 crore annually for the execution of this initiative.

Financial Relief for Families

The scheme provides direct savings for weaving households:

• Each handloom family will save about Rs 8,640 per year
• Each power loom family will save about Rs 21,600 per year

The financial assistance will help enhance income security for workers who depend on the weaving industry for their employment.

Measures to Support the Handloom Sector

The government has taken additional steps to strengthen the handloom industry. The new policies provide financial assistance for existing businesses while supporting technological upgrades and new business opportunities.

Welfare and Financial Support

• The weavers monthly pension was raised to Rs 4,000
• Cooperative societies received Rs 5 crore from the Thrift Fund program which allocated this amount to its budget

Modernization and Subsidies

• 90% subsidy on modern machinery purchases
• 15% subsidy on raw materials
• Steps to ensure supply of high-quality yarn

Market Access and Sales

The government is creating better sales opportunities for weavers. It is encouraging direct selling through e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart. This approach helps weavers reach more customers and improve their income.
