The state is experiencing fuel shortages of petrol and diesel at multiple fuel stations. The public faces difficulties because of the problem which has led to doubts about how supplies should be handled.
Fuel Shortage Across Retail Stations
- Multiple fuel stations have stopped their operations because they lack sufficient fuel. The state currently has 421 closed fuel stations out of its total 4,510 stations.
- The shortage was detected two days before the public announcement. The implementation of solutions had to wait for additional time. Multiple outlets displayed “No Stock” boards because of this disruption.
Reasons Behind the Sudden Demand Increase
- Officials reported that fuel demand has increased sharply. Many consumers are buying more fuel than usual due to fear of shortages.
- Data shows that petrol demand rose by 34% and diesel demand by 16% in one day. The following day also experienced a 22% rise in demand.
- Commercial consumers use retail outlets as their second reason for increased demand. Existing supplies now face additional stress because of this situation. Private fuel operators have stopped their supply to stations which has made the situation worse.
Government Directives to Restore Supply
- The Chief Minister has instructed officials and oil companies to improve fuel supply without delay. He stated that fuel availability must return to normal levels quickly.
- He also made it clear that fuel stations should not display “No Stock” boards. The goal is to ensure uninterrupted access for the public.
Monitoring Measures and Administrative Action
- The government has ordered the formation of a special task force which will manage the situation. A control room will also be established.
- Officials from the Revenue Police and Weights Measures departments will join this team. They will monitor supply and distribution until the situation stabilizes.
