Google AI Data Center Foundation Laid In Visakhapatnam

The foundation ceremony has initiated the construction of a significant technology project in Visakhapatnam. The event was led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Nara Lokesh. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joined them. Union Minister Rammohan Naidu and Google representatives were also present.

Project Location and Purpose

The new Google AI Data Hub will be built at Tharluvada. This project will enhance the state’s IT industry through its development. The project will establish Visakhapatnam as an important hub for artificial intelligence and subsea cable infrastructure.

Investment and Development Plan

Google plans to invest ₹1.35 lakh crore in this initiative. The company will establish data centers at three different sites. The centers will possess total operational capacity that exceeds 1 gigawatt. The company aims to complete all phases by 2028.

Land Allocation

The government has allocated land for the project in three areas:

  • 266.6 acres in Tharluvada
  • 160 acres in Adavivaram
  • 174.80 acres in Rambilli, Anakapalli district

The first phase will begin at Tharluvada.

Employment Opportunities

The project will create approximately 1.88 lakh job positions. During the construction phase, approximately 60,000 workers will find employment opportunities. The roles will require workers to possess civil engineering and electrical engineering and mechanical engineering skills.

Regional Impact

The Visakhapatnam AI Hub will provide support to Google Cloud services. The facility will function as a major regional connection point for all Asian countries. This development may increase the city’s importance in global data and technology networks.
