IBM plans to resume operations in Visakhapatnam. The company has recently registered with the Software Technology Park of India (STPI). The STPI announced through its X platform news that IBM had returned to the city.
According to the announcement, IBM plans to export products worth Rs. 321 crore over the next three years from its Visakhapatnam headquarters. The company also aims to create 502 local jobs. Reports indicate that suitable land has already been secured. The company has started its building development work for the new office space.
IBM’s Exit During the Previous Government
IBM had earlier exited Visakhapatnam during the YSRCP government. The government initially granted 25 acres of land to Kenexa at Rushikonda Hill-3.
IBM required only 3.20 acres according to its statement. IBM returned 21.80 acres to APIIC after the company pledged to create more jobs. The previous administration saw IBM sell its building to Infinity while it stopped all operations in the city.
TCS received the 21.80 acres which IBM returned to the current coalition government.
Land Allocation Process for Infosys
Infosys operates from a private building which exists in the IT Hills area of Visakhapatnam. The company recently requested land from the government to establish a permanent campus.
Officials have identified 20 acres in Endada for this purpose. The process of land allocation discussions has reached its final stages.
