A new 26-member cabinet was on Friday sworn into office in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. This is after all the ministers except Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel resigned. Cricketer Ravindra Jadeja's wife and MLA of Gujarat, Rivaba Jadeja, has been appointed in the new cabinet.
All the ministers of the Gujarat government except for the Chief Minister resigned on Thursday. Party leaders said that this was in line with a strategy to reconstitute the state cabinet to address more effectively political and administrative problems.
The Gujarat Assembly consists of 182 members, and under the norms, the cabinet can have at most 27 ministers.
Rivaba Jadeja was born in 1990 in Rajkot. She graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Atmiya Institute of Technology and Sciences. She got married to Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja in April 2016.
Rivaba became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2019. She fought the 2022 Gujarat Assembly polls from Jamnagar North and emerged victorious. She was the head of the women's wing of the Karni Sena in 2018 prior to becoming a member of the BJP.
