The families of the Karur stampede victims were greeted by actor and TVK party leader Vijay on Monday. Vijay visited the families in a resort in Mahabalipuram, where he personally comforted them. The TVK party had booked approximately 50 rooms in the resort for the visit. Special buses arranged by the party took the families to the venue.
The fatal stampede happened on September 27 at a campaign rally that Vijay's political party, TVK, had organized. It resulted in the loss of 41 lives and injured over 60 individuals. The tragic event led to widespread grief among various families in Karur.
Vijay declared monetary aid to the bereaved families. Every family of the victims got ₹20 lakh, and the injured got ₹2 lakh. The aid was given as part of his attempt to help the victims of the tragedy.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has formally taken up the case. As per procedure, the state police again registered the First Information Report (FIR). The court at the local level has been also notified about the transfer.
The FIR mentions a number of names, among which are TVK General Secretary Bassi Anand and State Joint Secretary Nirmal Kumar. The cause and responsibility for the stamped is still being investigated.
