Pakistan first announced that it would not play against India in the upcoming short-format World Cup. Pakistan cricket board showed a change in its original decision. The International Cricket Council (ICC) issued warnings which led to this shift in regulations.
Sourav Ganguly who formerly served as BCCI president addressed the matter. He said he was not aware of the internal discussions. However, he stated that Pakistan made the correct decision in the end.
Ganguly explained that politics and sports should remain separate. He also said that matches between India and Pakistan always attract attention. According to him Pakistan has not shown consistent competition in recent years. He stated that India currently possesses a powerful team. Pakistan will face difficulty defeating Team India because of this reason.
Harbhajan Singh Comments on Pakistan’s Decision
Harbhajan Singh who formerly played for India shared his thoughts. He stated that he had predicted Pakistan would change its decision from the beginning.
Harbhajan stated that the World Cup cannot succeed without India’s participation. The delayed realization of this point became obvious to Pakistan. He explained that Pakistan ended up making a major financial mistake because it refused to play India.
He stated that the ICC would have imposed severe penalties against Pakistan if it failed to complete the match. The possibility of this event happening played a role in Pakistan's ultimate choice.
