Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday laid the foundation stone for new offices of various banks in Amaravati. Later, Minister Nara Lokesh spoke about the progress and history of the capital city.
Lokesh hastened to add that farmers have a pivotal role in the building of Amaravati. He mentioned that several farmers voluntarily gave up their lands for the capital's development. The Amaravati movement also saw cases being filed against 3,000 farmers, while 270 farmers laid down their lives over 1,631 days of protest, he added.
He faulted the previous YSRCP government for announcing three capitals and not completing any works. Lokesh said that the government constructed a palace in Visakhapatnam at a cost of Rs. 700 crore for one individual. Despite these challenges, the current government continued to develop Amaravati under the slogan “Jai Amaravati.”
Lokesh also praised Nirmala Sitharaman for her work. He said she was a powerful woman leader in this country. He mentioned that she has presented eight successive Union Budgets and has replied aptly to the opposition members in Parliament.
The coalition government is working to ensure development in Amaravati proceeds unabated.
