Probe into University Mismanagement

Minister for Education Nara Lokesh briefed the Legislative Assembly that a probe will be done into the irregularities at Sri Krishna Devaraya University, Anantapur during the period 2019-2024.

The following issues will be probed by a committee:

  • Abuse of computers in procurement
  • Misuse of university vehicles for personal trips
  • Promotions and appointments against regulations
  • Breach of reservation policy in recruitments

He added that within 100 days, a report shall be filed, and necessary action shall be taken against those who are responsible.

Comitment Towards Transparency in Universities

The minister replied to MLA questions posed by MS Raju and Palle Sindhura Reddy during Question Hour. He added that the government's intention is to make universities' functioning transparent.

He cited one recent instance in which one student died following a seizure at Andhra University. He said it is not appropriate for the student unions to protest or politicize the issue when there was no fault of the government.

Lokesh stressed that Vice-Chancellors are being appointed in an open and political-free manner. He further said that the Chief Minister had instructed him to make Andhra University one of the top 100 universities. He felt disturbed that some groups are generating conflicts in the universities for self-interest.

Steps for Polytechnic College Infrastructure

  • Minister Lokesh further said that decisions have been taken to build new complexes for polytechnic colleges which do not have their own infrastructure.
  • Since the coalition government took over, two colleges' construction has begun.
  • Land has been allotted for colleges in Chodavaram, Ponnur, Bethancharla, Maidukuru, and Guntakal.
  • In the near future, land will also be allotted for Machilipatnam, KR Puram, and Anaparthi colleges.
  • He clarified that the construction will be done with a combination of central and state government funds, MP LAD funds, and CSR donations.

The minister pointed out that the admissions in polytechnics are 70 percent but demand for traditional courses is extremely poor. He added that the courses have to be redesigned to keep pace with student interest and industry needs.
