DK Shivakumar Hints At Stepping Down As Congress Karnataka Chief

The Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has given an indication of quitting the post of president in KPCC. He claimed he could not retain that position forever. DK Shivakumar said he would be able to continue to lead the party so actively. He made this statement while attending an event commemorating former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary. He made this statement amidst speculations for changing the Chief Minister in the state.

"I cannot be the Congress Karnataka chief forever. It is already five and a half years, and in another three months, it will be six. Let others get a chance. I had thought of resigning after becoming Deputy Chief Minister in May 2023, but party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi asked me to continue for some time. Whether I am KPCC president or not is not imperative. I'll continue at the forefront of party leadership. I also want to set up 100 party offices during my tenure, Shivakumar said.

Shivakumar exuded confidence that the Congress will come back to power in Karnataka. He called upon party workers to be optimistic and work seriously. On his role, he told the media, "No one can stay here permanently. I am not running away. I will work as long as the Gandhi family and Congress president want."

The suspense over changes in Karnataka politics began to intensify following the results of the Bihar elections.Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met senior party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. He has reportedly asked the high command to allow him to complete a full term as Chief Minister. There are reports emerging that DK Shivakumar may be proposed as the Chief Minister candidate for the forthcoming elections. Shivakumar, however, has decided to remain silent until a decision is made by the party high command.
