Politics has reached a tense pitch in Karnataka. Speculations over the change of guard in the state have gained momentum. Amidst this, a new post by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has drawn more attention.
Recently, during the Jayanti celebrations of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, DK said he cannot continue as the Karnataka Congress President forever. He later shared a poster containing a part of that speech. In the post, he wrote: “Where there is effort, there will be results. Where there is devotion, there will be God.”
He exhorted party workers in his message to remain active. He appealed to them to remain loyal to the party and not to lose confidence when the going gets tough with internal problems. DK did not speak on the issue of change in the leadership. However, his post came a day after the state government under CM Siddaramaiah completed two and half years and this timing has triggered discussions.
Ever since the Congress won the 2023 Vidhan Sabha election with a huge majority, there has been talk of power sharing. These discussions are going on for several months now. In the backdrop of Bihar election results, CM Siddaramaiah met the party high command in Delhi to discuss political matters. He sought permission for the expansion of the cabinet. DK too visited top Congress leaders before this meeting. DK claims that the discussion has spoken only regarding party matters. At the same time, there are reports that some of DK’s supporters have gone to Delhi. The aim apparently is to prod the high command to take a decision on the leadership change. The supporters may even demand that DK be made Chief Minister. But CM Siddaramaiah thinks differently. He has already announced that he will complete his five-year term. Because of these different positions, the situation relating to the leadership change is not clear.
