Four-Year Engineering Studies Without Jobs

  • Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh expressed his concern that many engineering graduates were not getting jobs despite four-year education. He, however said that students who are undergoing training for four months in Ameerpet, Hyderabad, get employment.
  • Lokesh called for rewriting the curriculum of higher education to meet the current needs of the job market. He asked the officials to link ITIs, universities, and industries up to November. Similarly, private colleges should connect themselves to the state skill portal and ensure campus placements for their students.
  • During a review meeting with higher education and intermediate education officials at his Undavalli residence on Wednesday, Lokesh discussed these issues.

Face-Based Attendance Implementation

  • Lokesh directed the officials to introduce face-based identification systems for the attendance of students in all colleges. He also suggested a series of steps to ensure 100 per cent campus placement in universities and IIITs.
  • He called for bringing in a single law to govern government universities and ordered action for enhancement of NIRF rankings. Lokesh asked the officials to aim at increasing the pass percentage in intermediate education and to monitor the vocational students for their progress. Employment Generation Through Job Fairs

  • Lokesh said that through 406 job fairs organized in various parts of the state, 78,000 youths have been employed since the coalition government came into power. Speaking at the Skill Development Organisation review meeting, he asked the officials to involve more companies in these fairs so that a greater number of people get employment.
  • He urged coordination with central government officials to establish partnerships with global organizations. He also suggested that new industries and emerging needs should be identified in order to revise the curriculum of IITs and polytechnics.

High Placement Rates in Polytechnic and ITI Courses

  • According to officials, 94.6% of the polytechnic and 98% of ITI pass-outs in the state are being successfully employed. In order to give a boost to blue-collar jobs, the government introduced 30 industry-relevant courses.
  • The department has provided training to 1,22,575 individuals through 12 model career centres. The department also collaborates with IPL for providing training in German, Italian, Japanese and Korean languages, facilitating foreign job placements for the students. Officials further said that ITIs and polytechnics have been linked with 273 industrial institutions across five clusters to strengthen industry-academia collaboration. These included State Skill Development Agency MD Ganesh Kumar, ONCAP Advisor Sita Sharma, and CDAP CEO Narayanaswamy, among other officials present in the meeting.
