Relief Measures for Cyclone Montha Victims

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy declared that Cyclone Montha has severely affected 12 districts of Telangana. The state government has announced financial relief for the victims. Farmers whose crops were damaged in the cyclone would get compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre while the families of the deceased would get Rs 5 lakh each.

The Chief Minister instructed the officials to provide Rs 15,000 for submerged houses and allot the Indiramma houses for those who have lost their homes. He visited the flood-affected areas along with Ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Konda Surekha, Ponnam Prabhakar, and MLA Nayini Rajender Reddy in Warangal and Hanumakonda districts on Friday. He interacted with affected residents in Sammayyanagar, Kapuvada, and Pothananagar during the visit and assured full government support.

Strict Instructions to Officials

  • At a review meeting held at the Hanumakonda Collectorate, the Chief Minister instructed officials in the seven districts to immediately prepare detailed reports on the rainfall and flood damages. He announced compensation of Rs 5,000 for each sheep and Rs 50,000 for each buffalo or cow that died due to floods.
  • He directed the officials to assess the damage caused by sand dunes and prepare structured reports to be sent to the central government for accessing disaster relief funds. The Chief Minister warned that laziness or delay from officials would not be tolerated.
  • He said that the cloud bursts due to a change in climatic conditions have now become common and asked the district collectors to visit the affected areas personally, besides calling for coordination by various departments and cooperation with public representatives for the collection of damage information.
  • When discussing the issue of drain encroachments, the Chief Minister instructed officials to remove all encroachments and work out a permanent solution. He instructed the setting up of a coordination committee for proper implementation of these measures and monitoring of Smart City projects relating to flood prevention.

Details of the CM's Field Visit

As part of the two-and-half-hour inspection, the Chief Minister called on the flood victims of Sammayyanagar. He visited Dabbala Latha and Salendra Ramadevi, who were residents in whose houses a deluge swept away their belongings. He asked the MLA Nayini Rajender Reddy to arrange for two-bedroom houses for the poor families and instructed Collector Sneha Shabarish to help students retrieve lost certificates.

Later, Mr. Revanth Reddy visited the collapsed Nala near Sammayyanagar and continued his visit to Kapuvada Colony where the locals informed him about massive areas inundated by floodwaters from Bhadrakali Dam. The residents appealed for the widening of the dam to prevent floods in the future.

Later, he visited Pothananagar Colony and inspected the embankment of the Bhadrakali tank and the drainage there. The local people who met him there explained that they had been facing the problem for the last 15 years. On the suggestion of local MLA Rajender Reddy to widen the drain and build protective walls, the Chief Minister asked Warangal Commissioner Chahat Bajpai to prepare the proposals for the same.

Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar Aerial Survey of Flooded Areas Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also took an aerial survey of the districts affected by the flood. He left Begumpet Airport on Friday afternoon with Ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, and Advisor Vem Narender Reddy. The three districts that fell under the survey conducted by the team were Siddipet, Hanumakonda, and Warangal. The team observed flooded residential areas and damaged crops from the helicopter, after which it took off for Hanumakonda to conduct ground inspections.
