Government Commits To Resolving Amaravati Farmers Issues

IT Minister Lokesh said that the developmental works of Amaravati as capital is going on at a fast pace now with the coalition government. He said though there have been losses during past five years, the state should move ahead together.

Lokesh said that during a big venture some small problems might also arise and officials, including MLA Shravan, Union Minister Chandrashekhar, and State Minister Narayana, are trying to solve the problems faced by Amaravati farmers. He added that the government was fully responsible for solving those problems.

He also said that Amaravati faced obstacles in the past. “The city, which was initially laid by the Prime Minister, was divided into three capitals. No construction work was completed, while a building costing Rs 700 crore was built for one individual,” said Lokesh.

The minister recalled the Amaravati movement, which lasted for 1,630 days, resulting in the death of 270 farmers and the filing of cases against about 3,000 persons. There were reports that police mistreated women during protests, he said. The current government was striving to rebuild Amaravati with the support of the Central government, Lokesh added.
