Microsoft announced plans to invest ₹1,772.08 crore in Andhra Pradesh. The investment will be used for setting up a large quantum computer at Amaravati Quantum Valley. The proposed system will have the capacity for 1,200 qubits equal to 50 logical qubits.
This accord is the result of discussions between state officials and Microsoft. A 4,000 sq. ft. building will be constructed for Microsoft inside Quantum Valley, according to officials. The project is said to further improve the growing technology and research ecosystem in the region.
IBM has already signed an agreement with the state government to establish a quantum computer with a capacity of 133 qubits in the same area. This places Amaravati as an emerging location for quantum computing in India.
In addition, several global companies have shown interest in investing in Quantum Valley. Tokyo-based Fujitsu is ready to instal a 64-qubit quantum computer under the expansion plan in India. Similarly, apart from Fujitsu, the central government has also proposed setting up a fabrication facility centre. It will be funded with 50 % of the amount allocated under Research and Development Initiative.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh plans to construct infrastructure in Quantum Valley for research institutions in a phased manner over 9 million sq. ft. An iconic tower is under construction and will provide 40,000 sq. ft. space. L&T has designed the architectural model for the tower.
