The city will develop itself as a major hub for data centres over the next three to four years. Globally, several firms are coming forward to establish large-scale data centres in the city. Reliance Industries will set up a 1,000 MW data centre on 400 acres in collaboration with Digital Connections. This will deploy AI-based systems and is expected to be ready by 2030. The estimated investment will be in the region of Rs 98,000 crore.
Representatives of the company met the Chief Minister in the partnership conference held on November 14 and 15 in Visakhapatnam. Following the discussions on land allotments and other requirements, Reliance signed the final agreement with the government. Similarly, Google has signed an agreement to set up a 1,000 MW AI data centre with an investment of Rs 1.33 lakh crore. Brookfield also agreed to invest Rs 1.10 lakh crore in a new data centre in the region. Syfy Technologies has conducted the ground-breaking ceremony for a Rs 16,000 crore data centre complex.
It intends to establish the new data centre in Visakhapatnam on 400 acres. In fact, it will be an extension of its proposed 1,000 MW data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The company will provide bespoke data storage facilities through the deployment of modular technologies including GPUs, TPUs and AI processors. These systems will enable various organisations to manage data with advanced efficiency.
It will also integrate substations, as well as needed power feeders, to support future technological development. According to officials, the Reliance Data Center will become one of the most powerful AI-infrastructure networks in Asia.
Progress on Government Targets The government plans to facilitate 6,000 MW of data center capacity in Visakhapatnam by 2030. Of that target, Google, Reliance, and Brookfield together account for 3,000 MW. Discussions are in progress with three more international companies. The government is demarcating the land requirements and related facilities for the investments in the pipeline. Officials say they are working towards wrapping up the required permissions within the next three months.
