Voting Schedule and Voter Statistics

Voting in the second phase of Bihar assembly elections is scheduled on Tuesday. A total of 3,70,13,556 voters are eligible to cast their votes across 122 constituencies in 20 districts. Among them, 1,95,44,041 are men and 1,74,68,572 are women. Nearly 4 lakh officials will be on election duty.

Of the total voters, 2.28 crore fall in the 30-60 year age group, while 5,28,954 are new voters participating for the first time.

Constituencies and Polling Arrangements

  • During this phase, 1,302 candidates are contesting the elections — 1,165 men, 136 women, and one transgender candidate.
  • In all, there are 45,399 polling booths, including 40,073 in rural areas and 5,326 in urban areas. The average number of voters per booth is 815. As many as 63,373 voters will exercise their franchise from home.
  • While the smallest constituency is Bhagalpur with an area of 23.887 sq km, Chainpur is the largest constituency covering 1,814.15 sq km. Makhdumpur has the least number of electors, 2,47,574, and Hisua has the maximum number, 3,67,667.

Special Arrangements and Security Measures

  • To ensure smooth voting, 595 polling booths will be managed wholly by women officers. The Election Commission has also set up 316 model polling booths to enhance the voter experience.
  • It has cut down on voting time in sensitive areas and deployed tight security across all districts. The Nepal border will be closed till November 11 as part of precautionary measures.
  • There are 6,255 voters aged above 100 years taking part in this phase.

Constituencies with Most and Least Candidates

The constituencies of Sasaram, Gaya Town, and Chainpur have the highest number of candidates — 22 each.

Laria, Chanpatia, Raxaul, Sugauli, Triveniganj and Banmankhi have the smallest number of candidates at 5 each.
