PM Modi Reacts to the Incident

  • The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has expressed deep grief over the stampede that occurred at the Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Kasibugga, Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. In a social media post, he termed the incident as distressing and also condoled the families who lost their members in this accident.
  • He said, "The stampede incident at the Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srikakulam is unfortunate. My thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones. I pray for the quick recovery of those injured."

Financial Assistance Announced

The PMO announced that ₹2 lakh ex-gratia relief would be given to the families of the deceased, while ₹50,000 would be given to each of the injured. The sum is meant for immediate aid for the family members of the victims.

Amit Shah Shares Condolences

  • Condemning the incident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also condoled the deaths. He termed the loss of lives due to the stampede deeply shocking and expressed sympathy for the families of the victims.
  • Details of the Incident The incident occurred during the Ekadashi when thousands of devotees visited the Venkateswara Swamy Temple to offer special prayers. A stampede ensued due to heavy crowding in which multiple injuries and as many as seven deaths were reported. Several devotees fell unconscious at the site, and the reports say that most victims were women. As many as 20 others received injuries in the accident.
