Actor Ajith Kumar spoke about the recent stampede at Karur in Tamil Nadu. In an interview given to an English news channel, Ajith spoke about his personal life as well as his experiences in the cine field. While talking about the tragic incident, he shared the blame for such situations among everybody - people, celebrities, and media.
“I don’t mean to criticize anyone, but such incidents are increasing. We all play a role in preventing them. The media should create awareness to avoid these situations. These incidents usually happen during film-related gatherings. When lakhs of people attend cricket matches, everything goes smoothly. But in theatres, the situation becomes chaotic. This damages the image of the film industry.
Ajith shared how at times public attention is a risk to lives. “My children often ask me to visit their school, but I have never done so. Whenever I drive, dozens of people follow me on bikes for photos. That can lead to accidents. In the past, I have even injured my hand while giving photos from my car," he said.
Speaking about his journey, Ajith said, “I treat every film as my first project. Even after so many hits, I don’t dwell on success. For my first movie, I was asked for a 100-day call sheet. It has been 33 years, and I still work with the same dedication. I owe everything to my fans for their support. Without my wife’s encouragement, I would not have reached this point.”
Understanding a Misconception in the 2021 Elections Ajith also clarified an incident that happened during the 2021 Tamil Nadu elections. A viral report had stated that he was angry with a fan when casting his vote. Ajith explained, "I went to vote along with my wife, Shalini. A person in the queue was clicking pictures of all the celebrities when clear signs said phones were banned inside the polling station. Ignoring the order, when I took his phone and handed it to the staff, it went viral, and the news said I was being rude to a fan. I was shocked by this false narrative.
