Tamil actor and founder of the TVK party, Vijay, has been conducting campaign events on every Saturday. They are a part of his preparations for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin criticized Vijay's campaign method indirectly. He asserted that he is not a weekend politician. Udhayanidhi mentioned, "I am not a leader who comes out only on Saturdays. I travel on Sundays too. I do not even know what day it is today."
Annamalai, the former president of Tamil Nadu BJP, also questioned Vijay's method. He said Vijay should engage directly with people instead of limiting public interaction to weekends. Annamalai stressed that a political leader must be available to the people at all times, not only on Saturdays or Sundays. He advised voters to carefully evaluate leaders before making decisions in the elections. He also added that if TVK wants to be a serious political party, its leaders must change their approach.
TVK sources gave the reason why the events are being held during weekends. They stated that the decision was made not to cause any inconvenience to school and college-going students.
Elections to the Tamil Nadu Assembly are due next year. The leading parties, including TVK, are in active campaign preparation mode. They are campaigning against the ruling DMK as well as criticizing the BJP.
