Vande Mataram Made Mandatory In Uttar Pradesh Educational Institutions

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that Uttar Pradesh has made the singing of “Vande Mataram” compulsory in all educational institutions of the state. The announcement was made during the mass singing of Vande Matram in Gorakhpur, organized under the initiative ‘Ekta Yatra’.

He said that singing the national song in schools and colleges will ensure respect and patriotism among young students from an early age. The Chief Minister emphasized that such practices encourage unity and a deeper connection with the nation's cultural values.

150th Anniversary of Vande Mataram

The decision has come as the country is celebrating 150 years of the song "Vande Mataram", which is celebrated on November 7. Keeping the anniversary in mind, the Central Government has planned a series of programs throughout the year.

The song was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee on November 7, 1875, and first appeared in his novel ‘Anand Math’. It became an inspirational symbol for millions during India's freedom struggle.

Remarks by the Prime Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed "Vande Mataram" as a dream, resolution, and mantra during an anniversary event in Delhi. The PM said that the song instills self-confidence and creates new hope about the future.
