India’s women’s cricket team ended the year on a strong note with a clean sweep in the five-match T20 series against Sri Lanka. The series win followed India’s success in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup. In the final T20 match played on Tuesday, India secured a 15-run victory.
India Sets a Competitive Target
- After losing the toss, India batted first and scored 175 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur led the innings with 68 runs from 43 balls. Her innings included nine fours and one six. She held the innings together during a difficult phase.
- Arundhati Reddy added valuable runs at the end. She remained unbeaten on 27 from 11 balls, with four fours and one six. Amanjot Kaur contributed 21 runs from 18 balls. Other batters failed to build momentum. Shafali Verma, Richa Ghosh, Deepti Sharma, and G. Kamalini were dismissed cheaply.
- At one stage, India were struggling at 77 for 5 wickets. Harmanpreet Kaur and Amanjot Kaur then added 61 runs for the sixth wicket in 37 balls. This partnership helped India reach a competitive total.
- Among Sri Lanka’s bowlers, Chamari Athapaththu, Rashmi Silva, and Kavisha Dilhari took two wickets each. Nimasha Madushani picked up one wicket.
Sri Lanka Fall Short in the Chase
- Sri Lanka chased a target of 176 runs but finished on 160 for 7 in 20 overs. Opener Hasini Perera scored 65 runs from 42 balls, hitting eight fours and one six. Imesha Dulani added 50 runs from 39 balls, with eight fours. Apart from these two batters, the rest of the lineup could not make significant contributions.
- India’s bowling effort was disciplined. Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy, Vaishnavi Sharma, Amanjot Kaur, Sricharani, and Sneh Rana took one wicket each. The bowlers maintained pressure and restricted the scoring in the final overs.
Record Achievement for Deepti Sharma
Deepti Sharma achieved a major milestone during the match. With one wicket, she became the highest wicket-taker in women’s T20 cricket. She surpassed Australian bowler Megan Schutt, who previously held the record with 151 wickets.
