Winter Sessions Of Telangana Assembly And Council Continue Until January 5

The winter sessions of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Council are scheduled to continue until January 5. The continuation of both houses after that date will be decided in the next Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting. The sessions began at 10:30 AM on Monday. The Council adjourned at 11:10 AM, while the Assembly adjourned at 12:30 PM. Sessions will resume on January 2.

Condolences and Bills Introduced

On the first day, condolence resolutions were passed for the late former MLAs Ramreddy Damodar Reddy and Konda Laxma Reddy. Several bills were introduced in the Assembly, including:

  • Legal validation for ordinances related to the merger of municipalities within ORR limits into GHMC.
  • Increase of GHMC wards from 150 to 300.
  • Government job provision for the son of late poet Ande Sri.
  • Removal of the two-child norm in local bodies.
  • Telangana GST amendment and employee rationalization.
  • Two ordinances related to pay structure revision.
  • Amendments to the Panchayat Raj Act and gazette publications related to Panchayat Raj and Rural Development.

Additionally, audit reports and annual accounts were presented, including the Telangana Samagra Shiksha (TSS) audit report, Telangana PM School for Rising India audit report, and Horticulture Development Corporation annual accounts. The Assembly continued with Zero Hour for about two hours before adjourning until January 2. The Legislative Council had also adjourned after the condolence resolutions.

Revanth Reddy Greets KCR

On the first day of the session, former Chief Minister and BRS chief KCR attended the Assembly. Before the session, he took his seat as the Leader of the Opposition. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy entered shortly before the session began and greeted KCR with a handshake and a namaskaram. KCR returned the greeting. The Chief Minister also greeted former ministers Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Gangula Kamalakar, and other officials. Several ministers and government whips accompanied the Chief Minister.

After the condolence resolutions were introduced, KCR left for his residence in Nandinagar. Upon arrival at the Assembly, Revanth Reddy received bouquets from Ministers Konda Surekha and Azharuddin, Government Whips Adi Srinivas and Beerla Ailaiah, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, and Assembly and Council secretaries. KCR was also welcomed with bouquets by BRS MLAs KP Vivekananda, Kaleru Venkatesh, and Kotha Prabhakar Reddy.

Business Advisory Committee Meetings

After the Assembly adjourned, the BAC met under Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. Attendees included Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Minister for Legislative Affairs Sridhar Babu, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Whip Beerla Ailaiah, BRS MLAs Harish Rao and Vemula Prashanth Reddy, floor leaders of BJP, MIM, and CPI, and Assembly and Council secretaries.

BRS members requested a minimum 15-day Assembly session and the opportunity to present a PPT on river water issues. They also asked that 15 public issues, including urea shortage, loan waiver, crop bonus, Rythu Bharosa, and job calendar, be discussed. BJP floor leader Maheshwar Reddy requested a 20-day session and presented 32 public issues for discussion. The Speaker stated that the number of days would depend on the issues.

A BAC meeting in the Legislative Council, chaired by Gutha Sukhender Reddy, also discussed session conduct. Members requested constituency development funds for MLCs. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti, Minister Sridhar Babu, Deputy Chairman Banda Prakash, Leader of Opposition Madhusudhanachari, and other MLCs participated. Following the BAC meetings, BRS MLAs, led by Harish Rao, submitted a representation to the Speaker requesting the chance to present a PowerPoint.
