- Nara Lokesh evaluated how public opinion about Amaravati and its agricultural community showed through the latest political outcomes. He said that Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had promised Amaravati as the single capital before elections but later introduced the idea of three capitals after coming to power.
- Lokesh explained that the three-capital model has not shown success in other countries. He said that people from Telugu states developed Hyderabad which later became the capital of Andhra Pradesh after the state experienced division without selecting its official capital.
Selection of Amaravati as Capital
Lokesh stated that Amaravati was chosen because of its central location in the state. He added that in 2014 all major political parties including the YSRCP supported this decision.
He highlighted the role of farmers in the capital project:
- Farmers gave about 35,000 acres of land
- Land was pooled within 58 days
- Participation was voluntary
He said that after the new government took power the security forces started pressuring farmers and women who had protested. According to him these protests continued for more than 1 600 days.
Election Results and Public Response
Lokesh said that his party promised to continue with Amaravati as the only capital during the elections. He said that voters agreed with this position.
Key points from election results:
- The party achieved a 94% strike rate
- The Visakhapatnam MP won with the highest majority in the state
- Victory came from a region earlier proposed as an Executive Capital
He said these results show clear public support for Amaravati as the sole capital.
Support for Amaravati Bill
- Lokesh thanked political parties and leaders who supported the bill that gives legal status to Amaravati as the capital. He noted that most parties supported the bill, with only one exception.
- He concluded that the success of this effort belongs to the farmers of Amaravati, who supported the project and continued their movement over a long period.
