Andhra Pradesh Expands Defense Manufacturing With AMCA Project In Puttaparthi

Andhra Pradesh is moving toward a bigger role in India’s defense production space, with the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft, AMCA  project being launched in Puttaparthi. This effort, it feels like a clear signal of a large push in aerospace output and it is expected to nudge industrial growth across Rayalaseema.

On Friday, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu are set to lay the foundation stone for the AMCA project in the Sri Sathya Sai district.

AMCA Fighter Jet Project Starts in Puttaparthi

The AMCA project will set up a manufacturing base for India’s fifth generation stealth fighter aircraft at Puttaparthi. It’s a shared initiative between the Aeronautical Development Agency, ADA and the Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO.

For the proposed facility, the plan includes an investment of ₹15,803 crore. The Andhra Pradesh government has kept aside 600 acres of land for this work, there will be.

Officials indicate the site could turn out to be one of the country’s important defense manufacturing hubs. At the same time, the project is also expected to back the government’s broader aim of boosting homegrown defense manufacturing.

Why This Project Matters for Andhra Pradesh

The AMCA project is likely to lift Andhra Pradesh’s footprint in aerospace and the defense domain. Rayalaseema, which has long leaned on farming and small scale businesses, may now witness a significant industrial expansion because of this push.

The project could pull in suppliers, engineering businesses, technology firms, and component makers into the area. State officials estimate that the supporting or ancillary industries linked to the initiative may lead to investments that could reach around ₹1 lakh crore over time, quietly.

The development also kinda aligns with efforts by Chandrababu Naidu to position Andhra Pradesh as a destination for advanced manufacturing, and technology industries.

Land Allocation  and Infrastructure Development

The state government has planned additional infrastructure around the fighter jet manufacturing facility , yes that one.

Apart from the 600 acres already allocated for the AMCA unit , the government has earmarked another 150 acres near Puttaparthi Airport. Officials also identified 200 acres for township development and supporting infrastructure, which is basically the same idea but with better layout.

In addition , the government plans to acquire another 400 acres in phases for ancillary industries linked to the defense project.

With improved road connectivity, airport access, and industrial infrastructure expected to support future expansion in the area , things look set to scale up.

Features of India’s Fifth-Generation Fighter Aircraft

The AMCA fighter aircraft is designed as a fifth-generation stealth multi role combat jet. The aircraft will include advanced technologies intended to enhance operational capability and survivability, not just speed for the sake of it.

Key elements include

  • Stealth technology to reduce radar detection
  • Twin engine super-cruise capability
  • Advanced avionics systems
  • Multi-role combat functions

Overall the project is seen as an important step in India’s push to develop modern fighter aircraft within the country itself.

Investment and Employment Opportunities

The AMCA facility is expected to create direct plus indirect employment opportunities across multiple sectors, not only factory jobs.

Officials estimate that around 7,500 jobs may be generated through the project. These jobs could include engineering work, manufacturing roles, maintenance jobs, logistics tasks, and administration functions.

Also the expected growth of supporting and related industries may further boost employment opportunities across the region, in a kinda chain reaction way.

Big investments in defense manufacturing in Andhra Pradesh can help, in a way, with skill development and hands-on technical instruction too, though it’s not always immediate.

Drone City and other Defense efforts

Along with the AMCA plan the government will roll out a few more defense and drone- related projects on Friday, you know, as part of the same push.

The Drone City initiative in Kurnool district is meant to shape a large drone ecosystem across India. During the event, foundation stones will be placed for four defense related ventures, plus eight other projects that tie back to Drone City.

Officials estimate that these 12 undertakings, together, should bring in investments of around ₹4,145 crore and create employment for roughly 6,071 people.

According to officials, two projects are planned for Madakasira, and one project each will go to Donakonda and Nellore. The remaining projects will sit inside the Drone City area in Kurnool district.

Chandrababu Naidu and Rajnath Singh, Visit timeline

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is expected to depart from his Undavalli camp office at 8:15 AM on Friday. He should reach Puttaparthi Airport at 9:45 AM , and then continue to the venue.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will reach the venue at 10:00 AM by special aircraft.
