Anna Canteens To Expand Into Rural Areas For Sankranthi

The government is soon going to establish Anna Canteens in rural parts of the state to mark Sankranthi Festivals. A total of 70 canteens are to be started at constituency and mandal levels. These canteens are being established at various stages of construction.

Completion of all the construction works is slated for January 10th. Inauguration dates are set from Jan 13th to Jan 15th.

Expansion Following Urban Success

  • After the formation of the coalition government, it began 205 Anna Canteens in the urban areas. These canteens are serving meals thrice a day. Breakfast is served in the mornings as well as in the evenings. Lunch is served in the afternoons. The meal costs Rs. 5.
  • Over 200,000 individuals dine at these canteens daily. In response to demands by Members of the Legislative Assembly, the government agreed to introduce the concept of 70 more canteens to rural areas.

Total Meals Provided to Over 7.20 Crores of People

  • Till date, 7.20 crore people have been fed with food from Anna Canteens in 205 urban areas. Of this total, 3.16 crore people were provided lunch. Morning breakfast has been provided to 2.62 crore people, while 1.42 crore people have received evening breakfast.
  • The maximum usage of Anna Canteens has been observed in Visakhapatnam, NTR, and Guntur districts.
