Chief Minister Calls For Additional Central Funds And Faster Spending

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu advised to utilize 75 % of the funds approved by the center during the current financial year. He also advised that an additional ₹5,000 Crore could be obtained from the center. The Chief Minister said that many ministries in the center were ready to disburse funds further. He instructed that ministers and departmental joint secretaries should coordinate their work with representatives from the center. The Chief Minister further asked State Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav to keep track of works at all departments. He has reviewed the progress achieved under Centrally Sponsored Schemes during the Collectors' Conference.

The Sanctioned Status of Funds

According to Finance Minister Ronald Ross, the central government has provided ₹15,731 crores for centrally sponsored schemes this year. This amounts to ₹24,513 crores including the state's share. Out of this: - ₹16,614 crores are available - ₹10,362 crores have been spent

He gave the break-up on the expenditures at the district level, identifying which schemes require the allocation of 75 percent of the amount immediately.

Spending Deadlines and Installments

The Chief Minister expressed surprise at the slow expenditure. He clarified that in order to get the next release of funds from the central government, 75 percent of the total budgetary allocations should be incurred by January 15. He further advised the departments to spend 75 percent of the third installment to release further funds.

Opportunity to Obtain Additional Funding

He cited the fact that under several central departments, there is an unspent budget in the fourth quarter of a year. Just an additional allocation of 5 per cent from the available balance would be of immense help. UNCLAIMED FUNDS IN DISTRICT ACCOUNTS

Finance Secretary Ronald Ross said that in all, there are ₹155.26 crores lying unclaimed in a total of 62,911 government bank accounts in the different districts. The Chief Minister has given his approval for making use of these funds. The Chief Minister instructed the districts to utilize the available funds with the help of the bank officials.
