Congress Leaders Address Ramlila Maidan Rally On Government Accountability

Congress is determined to remove the Modi-RSS government in the Centre, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said. He asserted that this process would be according to the principles of truth and non-violence. The ‘Vote Thief. Leave the Throne’ public meeting being held at Ramlila Maidan saw Rahul Gandhi speak on Sunday.

He accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi of being partial towards the BJP. He said the Election Commission did not take action when the ruling party transferred Rs 10,000 into the accounts of women during the Bihar elections. He added, Congress would amend the laws, if necessary, to bring accountability, and asserted that truth will triumph.

Voting Irregularities Raise Concerns

Rahul Gandhi said that many citizens are aware of irregularities in voting. He mentioned that attempts to question the Election Commission about voter list issues received no response. He described vote irregularities as a threat to the Constitution. He added that Congress workers uphold the truth, while power held by any party is temporary.

He further mentioned that when in Parliament he had pointed a finger at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Prime Minister Modi had seemed concerned. He suggested that had votes not been misused, the ruling party would have lost public support in double-quick time.

Support from Mallikarjun Kharge

Congress President and Rajya Sabha Leader of the Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge, asked people to support Rahul Gandhi’s campaign. He pointed out that despite family matters concerning his personal life, Rahul Gandhi stayed in Delhi to continue the political struggle.

Kharge said that Congress ideology can protect the Constitution, but RSS ideology cannot. He stated that leaders who misuse votes must be removed from power in order to protect the citizens' constitutional rights. He added that though Congress may lose elections, their ideology remains, while misuse of power will give a loss to the ruling party's credibility.

Statements by Priyanka Gandhi and Party Leaders

AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi condemned the government's moves to weaken the democratic institutions. She identified Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, who were said to have acted as the handpicked Election Commission officials of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and another official, Vivek Joshi, as undermining democracy. She added that officials would be held accountable and that Congress was committed to raising such issues continuously. Chief ministers and senior Congress leaders from party-ruled states were present in the rally. There were party cadres from all over the country. The BJP dismissed the rally, saying that such a rally had been organized to support illegal immigrants.
