Many areas in Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district have been affected by continuous rain due to Cyclone ‘Dithva’. Rain has been falling across Nellore city and its surrounding rural areas since Wednesday night. Flooding has occurred in many low-lying areas, and most streams and ponds in the district are full. It has entered the national highway at some places and is restricting vehicle movement. Houses in Perareddypalli and BC Colony were affected by the flooded water. Floodwater is flowing across the Pinneru Vagu causeway in Saidapuram mandal, and all the traffic between Saidapuram and Podalakur was stopped from Wednesday night onwards.
Tirupati district has also been receiving incessant rain right from Wednesday night. While Balayapalli received 10.8 cm of rainfall, Dakkili received 11.2 cm. The Neredu stream overflowed in Balayapalli blocking the movement between two villages. Floodwater is flowing across the flat area in Nidigallu, forcing the police to divert traffic coming from Venkatagiri via Ootlapalli. In Balayapalli mandal, the Kaivalya river is flowing over the causeway, bringing to a grinding halt movement between many villages from Nindali to Venkatareddipalli. Schools and colleges have been closed in 14 mandals of Gudur division. The Swarnamukhi river in Tirupati district is in full flow, touching around 20,000 cusecs.
Cyclone 'Dithva' continues to cause rains in Balayapalli mandal of Venkatagiri constituency and Thottambedu mandal of Srikalahasti constituency. In Gudur constituency, the rain is affecting Chittamur, Kota, Vakadu, Chillakuru, and Gudur mandals. Many roads in Tirupati district have been damaged. People residing in Daivaladibba in Gudur constituency have also been shifted to safer areas.
