IndiGo Crisis Reaches Supreme Court

The cancellations of the IndiGo domestic flights have disrupted passengers at airports. The issue has reached the Supreme Court. A PIL has been filed over the cancellation of services. The petitioner has sought an urgent hearing. The Ministry of Civil Aviation and DGCA have been asked to file a status report. It seems the petition has not gone unheeded by the Supreme Court.

This disruption of IndiGo flights has continued for the last five days. On Saturday, hundreds of domestic flights from Delhi were called off. The Delhi Airport stated that services are being restored gradually, though some flights have been affected. The Indian Railways have also intervened to help stranded passengers. It has added 116 coaches to 37 trains to carry passengers faster.

Restoring normal operations remains my utmost priority, said Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu. The authorities are keeping a close watch on FDTL rules and airlines' scheduling. Airlines have been instructed to ensure that these rules are followed. A committee has been constituted to find out the reasons for disruption. Orders have been issued to give priority at the airports and airlines to children, elderly passengers, lactating mothers, and people with disability.
