The main founder of the IPL, Lalit Modi, currently residing in the United Kingdom while facing allegations related to money laundering, has issued an apology to the Indian government. His statement came after strong public and official reactions to a video that circulated widely on social media.
Lalit Modi retorted that his comments were not correctly interpreted. He added that he did not mean to hurt public sentiments. He further extended his regard for the Indian government and mentioned that he meant no offense with his remarks.
The comments in the video have strongly been objected by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. "We are in touch with the British government. That is what is happening," confirmed the ministry, explaining that the government is holding diplomatic discussions with Britain. It added that such talks were aimed at securing the return of both Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya to India to face legal proceedings.
