Overall Results
In the first phase of Panchayat elections, Congress-backed candidates won 2,425 seats that included seats decided unanimously. In 4,230 villages polling was held. Of the Gram Panchayat seats, Congress secured 57.32 percent.
Of them, 1,168 candidates backed by the BRS won and that accounts for 27.6 percent. The BJP won 189 or 4.5 percent. The CPM secured 24 seats, accounting for 0.54 percent, while the CPI won 23 seats that account for 0.57 percent. Independent candidates won 401 seats and constitute 9.47 percent. State Election Commission released the final vote count for all participating villages.
Congressional Performance by District
- The party, in its report, has pointed out that its supported candidates won 60.69 per cent of the seats, including unanimous wins. "The Party secured control of 2,567 Panchayats," it said.
- Barraing Siddipet, all other districts saw the good performance of Congress. The party emerged victorious with highest number of 211 seats in Nalgonda district, besides breaching the three-figure mark in several other districts like Vikarabad, Khammam, Nizamabad and Medak on 179, 137, 134 and 111 respectively.
- While BRS won few in Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Vikarabad, Khammam, and Jogulamba Gadwal, Congress made big.
BRS Performance
- The Siddipet district alone accounted for 71 seats in the BRS, just five more than Congress. It also fought over seats in Mahbubnagar, Jagtial, Kumuram Bheem, Wanaparthy, Hanamkonda, Ranga Reddy, and Sangareddy districts.
- BRS fared the worst in Jogulamba Gadwal district with only eight seats. In Mulugu and Narayanpet, it won ten each, while it took 15 in Nizamabad district.
Performance of BJP
- The ruling BJP did not secure even a single seat in Bhadradri, Khammam, Mulugu, Medak, and Peddapalli districts. In Jangaon and Warangal too, it secured just one seat each.
- In Mahbubnagar district, where the party has an MP, it managed to get just two seats. While the BJP performed best in Kamareddy district with 23 seats, it secured 18 seats in Nirmal, 16 in Nizamabad, 13 in Karimnagar, and 11 in Siddipet.
Results of CPM and CPI
- The CPM recorded its maximum number of ten seats in Khammam district, nine in Bhadradri, two in Nalgonda, and one each in Mahbubnagar, Suryapet, and Yadadri.
- In Bhadradri district, the CPI secured eight seats; in Khammam, five; in Nalgonda, four; in Yadadri, two; and one each in Nagarkurnool, Hanamkonda, Vikarabad, and Sangareddy.
- Independent Candidates Independent candidates had their highest success in Adilabad district with 31 seats, 19 in Nizamabad, and 16 in Karimnagar. Kumuram Bheem and Siddipet accounted for 15 independent winners each. Kamareddy, Nalgonda, and Nirmal districts reported 14 independent wins each. Bhadradri had 13, while Sangareddy and Vikarabad had ten each. In Wanaparthy district, all the seats were taken by major political parties.
