Royal Challengers Bengaluru managed some sort of boss level win over Gujarat Titans in the first IPL Qualifier, after piling up a huge 254 runs. RCB captain Rajat Patidar, you know, pretty much drove everything , smashing an unbeaten 93 off just 33 balls and that alone put his team ahead early on
Then the response from Gujarat Titans… it didn’t really land. They stumbled across the chase, and ended up all out for 162 runs. And yeah, losing key batters early didn’t help at all, including Shubman Gill , Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler, so the chase became way too hard from the start
The real shift happened in the middle overs of the RCB innings. Gujarat Titans dropped two chances for Rajat Patidar when he was still finding rhythm at the crease. Kulwant Khejroliya and Kagiso Rabada both missed the moment to dismiss the RCB skipper , and after that it was pretty downhill
Once he escaped those chances, Patidar went after the bowlers in a pretty relentless manner , and hit nine sixes along with five boundaries. That knock pushed Royal Challengers Bengaluru toward one of the biggest totals of the season, like , no question
After the game, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill said the team was at least competitive for long stretches during the first innings. But in his view, poor fielding is what tipped it, plain and simple
Gill added that the side lost momentum after catching chances were missed, and after they couldn’t stop runs consistently on the field. He also mentioned the team should take the lesson, fix it quickly, and move forward
He further said Gujarat Titans felt they could still chase the big target if they had started strongly during the Powerplay overs. Like really, that opening phase mattered a lot
For Gujarat Titans, the chase stayed stuck. Sai Sudharsan made 14 runs, Shubman Gill could manage only 2, and Jos Buttler scored 29 before being dismissed , so the innings just didn’t build any momentum at all
With the top order failing early, the pressure increased on the middle order. RCB bowlers maintained tight control and did not allow Gujarat Titans to build partnerships.
As wickets continued to fall, the result became clear well before the final overs.
Despite the heavy defeat in the RCB vs GT clash, Gujarat Titans remain alive in the tournament. The team will now play Qualifier 2 against the winner of the Eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals.
A win in that match will send Gujarat Titans into the IPL final.
