Reforms Planned In Rural Development And Drinking Water Supply Departments

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan announced reforms in the Rural Development and Rural Drinking Water Supply departments on the lines of those already adopted in the Panchayat Raj department. He said changes in administrative processes right from the field level to State-level are needed.

The Deputy Chief Minister led a review meeting with officials and engineers from the Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, and Rural Drinking Water Supply departments at his camp office in Mangalagiri on Friday. He went through employee structures, designations from village level to senior levels, and other administrative matters during the discussion.

Focus on a more rapid development of services in improved ways

  • Pawan Kalyan directed that development and infrastructure works under the Rural Development department needed to move faster. He felt changes and new initiatives were required in departments to improve the public satisfaction level. He highlighted concepts like Swachh Rath (Cleanliness Chariot), Magic Drain to improve service delivery.
  • He also sought to create a friendly working environment for the staff. People, according to him, should get better roads and safe drinking water. He added that technology must be used for continuous monitoring of Jal Jeevan Mission works.

Water Supply and Quality Monitoring

The Deputy Chief Minister instructed the officials to see that the existing water supply schemes are implemented efficiently. He told them that water quality tests must be properly and duly conducted. Monitoring should be inbuilt in the system so as to avoid delay and gap in the service.

Employee Accountability and Gram Sabha Evaluations

Pawan Kalyan said every employee has the responsibility to promote positive engagement among the workers and the public under the employment guarantee scheme. He instructed the officials to review the developmental works approved in Gram Sabhas from time to time.

Submission of Reports on Reform

  • He directed the departments to furnish detailed reports on proposed reforms and best practices in rural development and rural drinking water supply. He said all reforms should bring direct benefits to the public.
  • Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department Commissioner Krishna Teja, Minister's OSD Venkatakrishna and others attended the meeting.
