Member of Parliament Kesineni Shivnath and MLA Gadde Rammohan requested that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu press for a long-pending proposal for Greater Vijayawada. They met the chief minister at the Secretariat on Thursday and submitted a report on this issue. This appeal came for fulfilling a long-standing demand in this region.
MP Shivnath said that many villages in the constituencies of Penamaluru, Mylavaram, and Gannavaram are already part of Vijayawada.
Most of the 75 villages in these regions, according to the report, are indirectly tied to Vijayawada through movement, habitation, or trade.
Advantages of a Greater Metropolitan Area
- The report mentioned several advantages of establishing the Greater Vijayawada.
- Conditions of garbage disposal in the rural surroundings and municipalities are terrible. There is a lack of proper drainage networks, sewage, and rain water channels.
- The population in the suburbs has also grown, although the availability of drinking water is still inadequate.
- The community is grappling with issues such as poor road connectivity, lack of light, and inadequate modern infrastructure.
- There is no effective control mechanism for un authorized layouts/activities in real estate. Illegal constructions are multiplying suddenly.

Economic and Administrative Advantages
- The proposed notification highlighted that the metropolitan status would help in the development of industrial corridors, IT parks, logistics, and tourism projects. All these projects will help in providing employment opportunities.
- There are issues in terms of policing, transport, law and order, and airport management because of the NTR and Krishna division of districts. There are advantages of forming a unified metropolitan system because of all these issues raised for the current division of districts in NTR and Krishna.

MP Kesineni Shivnath and MLA Gadde Rammohan told Eenadu that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu reacted positively to their idea. He asked them to direct his office officials to work immediately on their plans for Greater Vijayawada.
