Five Teams One Dream The IPL Playoff Race Is Going Down To The Wire

The IPL playoff picture is, yknow, starting to look a bit clearer. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans have officially grabbed their spots for the next stage after Hyderabad beat Chennai Super Kings. Now both teams are on 16 points and, realistically , no more than four teams should be able to finish higher than that.

Since Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants are already eliminated, everyone’s focus has shifted toward that last available playoff ticket. There are still five teams technically in the race: Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Chennai Super Kings.

The last league games will decide who gets to join Hyderabad and Gujarat in the playoffs.

Hyderabad and Gujarat Confirm Their Places

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s recent win, it was a big turning point for the table. That match didn’t just nudge them upward it also locked in Gujarat Titans qualification… sort of like dominoes falling.

Both clubs are sitting on 16 points, Rajasthan Royals are the only team left that could realistically reach that same number. Because of that, Hyderabad and Gujarat cant be pushed out of the top positions anymore.

Their steady performances, not flashy exactly , but consistent across the season is what helped them qualify before the final set of league matches.

Mumbai and Lucknow Exit the Tournament

Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants lost their rhythm earlier on and, well, couldn’t claw it back in time.

Mumbai had trouble stringing together victories during those critical stretches. Lucknow also slipped in matches it really needed, and that quickly shrunk their chances.

So both teams are now out of the playoff race even with games still remaining.

Rajasthan Royals Have the Clearest Path

Out of the remaining contenders, Rajasthan Royals are holding the strongest position right now.

The team has 12 points from 12 matches. If Rajasthan wins both the remaining games, it will reach 16 points and qualify directly, no need to bank on other outcomes.

So basically, Rajasthan has more grip over what happens next than the other sides still in the mix. But one   loss, even a small one, could turn the whole thing into a more tangled mess.

Punjab Kings Need Results to Go Their Way

Punjab Kings are sitting on 13 points from 13 matches. Their last league game is now, honestly, pretty crucial.

Even if Punjab wins and pushes its tally higher, qualification may still rely on how other matches play out. Also, net run rate could come into the picture, if multiple teams end up tied on points or near enough.

Punjab’s hopes are still there, but the room for error is   tiny, very small.

Delhi Capitals and Chennai Face Pressure

Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings both have 12 points from 13 matches. With only one game left now, neither team really has full control anymore, not fully at least.

A win in the final match is needed to stay in contention. Still, after that, both teams might require good results from other fixtures, not just their own.

For Chennai, the recent defeat to Hyderabad has made the road to playoffs way more difficult. Delhi also feels the pressure, because teams above them still have matches left to play.

Kolkata Knight Riders Still Have Hope

Kolkata Knight Riders have 11 points from 12 matches, and they remain in the playoff race.

To keep this alive, Kolkata needs to win its remaining games, and also wait for other teams to drop points in key moments. Their net run rate could matter again if it turns into a tight end of table situation.

Even though Kolkata stands lower, there’s still a clean mathematical chance to qualify, at least in theory.

The Final Spot Could Go Down to the Last Match

This season’s playoff battle is likely to continue until the final league matches. Several teams remain close in points, and small changes in results could quickly reshape the table.

Rajasthan currently holds the advantage because it controls its own path. The other teams must not only win but also depend on help from elsewhere.

With one playoff place still open and five teams chasing it, the closing stage of the tournament promises high tension and close competition.
