The New Zealand cricket team secured a 50-run victory against India in the fourth T20 match of their series. The Indian team lost the match after they scored 165 runs in 18.4 overs while pursuing a target of 216 runs. Shivam Dube played an aggressive match but his performance was insufficient to prevent the team from losing.
India The Chase India
- India started their chase with poor performance. Abhishek Sharma received a dismissal without scoring and Suryakumar Yadav made eight runs. The two wickets fell during the opening two batting periods. Rinku Singh and Sanju Samson then added momentum with positive stroke play. The Indian team scored 53 runs with two wickets lost at the conclusion of the powerplay.
- The team lost its earlier momentum. Sanju Samson was dismissed for 24, and Hardik Pandya followed soon after for two. Rinku Singh scored 39 runs but he could not continue playing. The Indian team faced pressure at their score of 82 runs with 5 wickets lost.
- Shivam Dube then changed the tempo. He attacked the bowling and scored 65 runs from 23 balls. His innings included three fours and seven sixes. He reached his half-century after hitting three sixes and two fours against Ish Sodhi during one over which took him 15 balls. Dube hit a six and a four off Matt Henry in the 15th over but he was run out on the last ball of the over. The Indian team lost all hope of a comeback after his dismissal and the defeat became obvious.
New Zealand Strong Batting Performance
- New Zealand won the toss and chose to field first. The team achieved 215 runs while losing seven wickets throughout their 20 overs. Tim Seifert and Devon Conway opened the match for their team by establishing a strong partnership. Seifert scored 62 off 36 balls, while Conway made 44 off 23 balls. The pair added 100 runs for the first wicket.
- Daryl Mitchell finished the final overs by scoring 39 runs from 18 balls. Glenn Phillips contributed 24, Jack Foulkes scored 13, and Mitchell Santner added 11.
Bowling Highlights
For India, Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets. Arshdeep Singh also claimed two wickets. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Bishnoi took one wicket each. New Zealand’s bowlers controlled the chase well. Mitchell Santner took three wickets, while Jacob Duffy and Ish Sodhi took two each. Matt Henry and Jack Foulkes picked up one wicket apiece.
Series Status
India had already won the first three matches of the series. The fifth and final T20 match will be played on Saturday, January 31, in Thiruvananthapuram.
