Robin Uthappa Advises Australian Batters To Follow Pujara And Rahane

The suggestion from ex-India cricketer Robin Uthappa was that the in-form Australian batters take Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane as their role models. He made such a suggestion after the fourth Test of the Ashes series where Australia lost to England by four wickets. It was the first time in fifteen years that Australia had faced defeat at home against England. Uthappa insisted on the need for patience and good technique for batting.

Uthappa observed that the Melbourne wicket was in favor of the pacers. He commented, “Even on a hard wicket, skilful, patient, and determined batsmen can score quite well. You may not score 300 runs, but getting to 250 is possible.” He advised the batters to the Pujara and Rahane way to continue getting runs.

Root was one of the players Uthappa talked about and he was the England batter who was having a tough time in the match. According to Uthappa, in the second innings, Root was indecisive whether to go for an aggressive batting style or stick to his normal one. Uthappa went on to say that Test cricket has changed and that one has to be able to turn the match according to the conditions in order to keep the audience interested.

Australia won the first three Tests and thus had already clinched the Ashes series before losing the fourth Test. The last and fifth Test of the series is going to be held in Sydney starting on Sunday, January 4th.
